In today’s class we were asked to create patterns from scratch. We tore up some paper and did some sketching with our dominant and non-dominant hand. We then, manipulated the colours of the sketches with the Ultrapop app and then made symmetrical patterns using the KaleidaCam app. We also drew a rough illustration and used the patterns we made earlier to create products.
While doing the assignment, I was slightly overwhelmed because it all felt new. This was the first project I was doing at the London College of Fashion. And I was constantly worried about if what I am doing is right. But since the project was simplified into smaller tasks that led to a larger outcome, I felt more at ease. I was thrilled to be able to create something from the very scratch, because my work felt so original, solely mine. I realized that creating anything from nothing is time and effort.
I felt like my illustration could have looked better, so I plan on working on my speed to be able to make illustrations quickly. Furthermore, I think time management is something I should work on in general, because doing tasks in a group means I need to able to catch up. I feel like I should be able to think while working. These are a few things that I feel like I should work on, but I felt good making something I am proud of, because unlike assignments in school, I felt like I was working on something I was good at. So, it made it fun.
I learned how to develop a pattern in this session, and I plan on using this technique in projects going forward. I was able to make something that stood out while using less material. In general, I really enjoyed the task.
