In this session we used the images we took in Shoreditch (our field trip) to make collages. We then designed garments using the collages.
Here are a few questions I’d like to answer:
Were you prepared for todays class with all equipment and print outs? How did you go about organising everything?
Answer- I had all my images, 12 pictures of the graffiti in two sizes ad 12 black and white images of random objects in two sizes as well. Since we only have a printer at uni, I waited until class, but faced a few issues with the MyUAL app. And Caryln was nice enough to help me print all of my pictures out after the class had already begun. Clicking the right pictures on the trip was quite important, because that was our primary research, and the next couple toolboxes will be based off of that research.
What did you enjoy most or least about the class task?
Answer- What I enjoyed most about this project was sticking bits of paper from our pictures to our muses. I felt like we had a lot of creative license ad could go crazy with the designs. Because practicality wasn’t to be considered at that moment. What I liked least was having to make so many sketches, because I like sketching and designing but I did not want to do something half heartedly, and there was so much sketching to do, so I was tempted to do just anything. I do like some of the products I ended up designing a lot though.
Did you see the value in using your own images rather than internet pictures?
Answer- Yes, I do see it. All my work feels completely original and I don’t feel guilty or the need to credit someone else for my work as well. I feel like the everything I made is entirely my own and I loved that. I also think this taught me how to use primary research while making things. I also think I was able to take pictures of things I definitely wanted, so I did not have to spend time researching for something I wanted. These were a few things I liked.
